My name is Courtney Thomas Leeds. Several years ago I owned a performance, aftermarket, automotive shop. Basically, we made cars go a lot faster. We had about 30 employees and all the headaches that went with it. For our legal matters, we used a high-powered law firm, based out of Irvine, California, named Kring & Brown. As I am sure you know, legal counsel is just part of the cost of doing business. With risk management being a central function of management, all business people should have regular access to quality attorneys.
Our main attorney was named Ken Chung. I can vividly remember writing checks for many thousands of dollars (8,10,12) to the folks at Kring & Brown. I did not mind spending the money because, when you think about it, our legal system is a heck of a lot better than the alternative. I mean, I am sure glad I do not live in Afghanistan!
At any rate, that law firm, in Irvine, is no longer called Kring & Brown. It is now called Kring & Chung. Ken made partner. Mr. Chung is a great guy and one heck of an attorney. But, if you know anything about the legal profession, and billable hour quotas, you will understand why I have more than a sneaking suspicion that all those payments might have helped put Ken's last name on the marquee. Indeed, the legendary Charlie Munger called the Billable Hour Quota a, "Perverse incentive." We, at LegalShield, fix that problem.
My partner and I eventually sold that company. At which time I set off in a new direction. I helped my dad with his exterior coating business. We exclusively sold elastomeric coatings because they are the best-of-the-best. My decision to go down this path will make more sense when I tell you that my formal education is in chemistry. Things like resins and titanium dioxide are really interesting to me.
Around this time I was introduced to the LegalShield concept. It was my father who first showed it to me. I would like to say I understood it right away, but that would be incorrect. After paying a pretty penny, to the guys at K&B, I had a hard time understanding how an attorney could do much of anything for $60. So, I resisted. I was so caught up in the operations of our business that my mind was closed to new ways of accessing attorneys.
Before long I needed some legal advice. It was then that my dad finally called me on the carpet. He told me to stop being so stubborn and try LegalShield. I had to admit, I was being closed-minded when I pride myself on being very open-minded. So, of course, I gave the thing a try. And I was blown away! The service was excellent. But one experience, in particular, really did it for me.
I was negotiating a business deal with a gentleman, in Kentucky, named Larry. Larry had written up a contract that was to be governed by the laws of The Bluegrass State. I had never been to Kentucky. But, I still needed the help of an attorney. This is where LegalShield really delivered. For not a single penny more than my membership fee, I was referred to a law firm, in Louisville, by the name of O'Koon Hintermeister. This was all the way back in 2004, but I still remember my attorney's name. Her name was Jennifer Armstrong and she holds a special place in my heart. Ms. Armstrong walked me through the negotiation, step-by-step, and everything worked out extremely well. Best of all, I did not receive a costly bill in the mail. It was unbelievable!
I have been using this LegalShield membership for more than 10 years now, and I am a raving fan. I have used the service many dozens of times and am very thankful to have it. From the time I got a letter in the mail from the IRS, to being pulled over by a police officer, to contract and document review, I will never again live without this amazing membership. And, after all my personal experiences, I just knew I had to be associated with this magnificent company.
Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said, “Hitch your wagon to a star,” and you would have to agree, it is great advice. Between the things I just told you, and the other information on this website, you would be hard-pressed to find a more promising star than LegalShield.
What I am looking for: I'm looking for an optimistic, hard worker. This will be a person who is, or wants to become, an entrepreneur. This means a person who is open to new ideas but also finishes what he or she begins. This person knows, or will come to know, that the number one skill, and job, of a business owner is marketing. I am calling out to the person who desires real freedom, in every sense of the word. Is that you?
I am a native of California. High school was in San Clemente and college was at Berkeley. So, when you meet me, expect to see flip-flops on my feet :) Rainbows, of course!
